CRAFT SUPPLY LIST

I've always gotten what I need when we need it when it comes to kids' crafts. We'll go to the store with a project in mind or figure one out when we get there. We I'm pretty unorganized that way. I think it inhibits creativity to not have supplies on hand so I went looking for a good list of what a good craft supply cabinet should have. I found this awesome list from The Crafty Crow with her favorite brands in parenthisis (list taken from blog post here)

Make your mark:
crayons (Crayola)
markers
colored pencils (Prismacolor)
pastels

Paints:
watercolors (Prang)
tempera paint
acrylic paint (Delta Ceramcoat)

Textiles:
yarn
felt: craft or wool
fabric scraps
thread
embroidery floss (DMC)
muslin

Three Dimensional:
homemade dough
air dry clay
aluminum foil
chenille stems
toothpicks
scrap wood
craft/popsicle sticks
wood shapes
polymer clay (Sculpey)
clay

Stringing & Beading:
string
straws
pony beads
wood beads
glass bead
fishing line

Printing:
ink pad
sponge
brayer
rubber stamps
printing ink

Fun to have:
glitter
pompoms
feathers
cotton balls
googly eyes
craft foam
sequins

Stick it together:
white glue (Aleene's Tacky Glue or Sobo)
glue stick
brads
Mod Podge
liquid starch
fabric glue (Fabric-Tac)
wood glue

Tools:
scissors
paintbrushes
hole punch
variety of needles

Papers:
copy paper
construction paper
tag board/card stock
wax paper
colored tissue paper
coffee filters
clear contact paper
freezer paper
roll of white paper (i.e. butcher paper, wrapping paper)

From The Recycling Bin
cardboard
magazines
junk mail
egg cartons
milk cartons
empty boxes
clean cans & jars
netting from produce bags
bubble wrap
packaging peanuts
styrofoam trays

Keep it clean:
newspaper
apron or large shirt
old sheet(s)

Obviously it's not necessary to always have every item on this list, but how much fun would it be to have all of these things before you so your creativity can run wild! The things I want to remember the most are the items in the "From the Recycling Bin" section. I never seem to remember to save those items and when we think of or come across a fun project we have to wait until we have them.

I guess your next problem is where to keep all of these supplies. Right now, the supplies we DO have are just in boxes/storage containers and we pull them out and make a big mess on the dining room table. I love the idea of this rolling craft cart from Better Homes and Gardens

Do you keep a good supply of craft items around? How do you store it?

Our crafts are mainly in one room - my 6 year old always comes out of there saying, "I want to make this," most often we start the project if we have time

What a great list! We've been crafting this week based on "what's on hand" and I really need to get better organized too. Love the cart idea. Actually saw something similar on Craigslist today. If only I had the space for it!
