Halloween Cookie Cutter Painting

Bats and pumpkins, and ghosts that BOO, grab your cookie cutters and have fun too! Today’s spooktacular Halloween activity from Crayon Box Chronicles is simple, budget-friendly, and takes less than 5 minutes to set-up — boo-riffic! Last week we experimented with pumpkin ice painting, learning the science behind freezing and melting. It was messy science fun! Materials Needed:

  • Halloween Cookie Cutters
  • Non-toxic, Washable Paint
  • Paper
  • Cardboard or Paper Plates
  • Tape
  • Glitter

After taping down the corners of your paper, squeeze a small amount of paint on to paper plates or a piece of cardboard. I asked C to choose each color, then pick a color for each Halloween cutter. Here’s C in action! When he was deciding which cutter goes where, he sang a little jingle, “The Bat goes BOO, BOO-da-doo!” He continued, “Kitty-cat goes MEOOW-a, MEOW and Boo … ” And so on for each cookie cutter — hilarious! He loves colors too, so he kept naming them as he picked them up. Dip each cookie cutter into the paint and go! C began creating a collage of different colors and cutters. “Hmm, where should it go?” So many decisions! This simple activity kept him entertained for 15 minutes! In preschooler time, that’s huge! The bat was our favorite! We mixed neon non, toxic paint with regular paint. For the cutters we used a skull, pumpkin, cat, bat, and ghost from our local Big Lots store. I’ve also seen them at the Dollar Tree. There’s so many interesting ways to use cookie cutter too! Next, its glitter time — shake, shake, sparkle, sparkle!! Who doesn’t love glitter?! We only had silver on-hand, but next time I’d use multiple colors like black and purple! Total cost for the project, just $1 for the cutters. Simple, fun, and lots of shimmery fun! This will make a perfect addition to C’s art wall!
