Adventures in Test Driving: Dodge Durango + A Giveaway!

If you’ve ever taken your kids with you on the quest for a new vehicle, you know that “Adventures in Test Driving” is an appropriate title! I LOVE checking out new vehicles, just not always with the kids. I decided to let the boys have a say this time around, so we talked about features we wanted/needed and decided to check out the new 2014 Dodge Durango, which offers Best-in-Class 25 hwy mpg (SXT, Limited and Citadel RWD) and an 8-speed automatic transmission.

The boys were excited to have a say in what we’d check out/test drive.

Here’s the thing. I’ve never been a minivan person, so I’ve always just had a sedan or a truck. I thought we’d passed the need for a minivan since the boys were older, but I’ve run into a few problems lately. First of all, where do we put the boys’ friends if they each want to take one somewhere? And even if we don’t have friends with us, where on earth do we put the dogs if we want to go for a hike or camping? The boys are getting bigger and the dogs certainly aren’t getting any smaller. The first thing I checked out was the third row. The Durango seats 7 (honestly, pretty comfortably for a 3rd row in an SUV) but the 3rd row also folds flat with PLENTY of room for the dogs.

I loved the bucket seats on the second row in this model we drove.

I personally am huge on the technology in the cars, but it was the boys who were SUPER excited to see these USB ports in the back. So smart.

The Durango is more technologically advanced than ever before and had all that I (or the boys) wanted, including an available class-exclusive Blu-rayTM Entertainment Center. Yes. Blu-ray. I love the keyless Enter ‘N Go™ system (and so would you if you’ve ever had do dig for your key for 5 minutes) that allows you to open, start and lock the Durango as long as the key is nearby (like in your purse). The Durango also has an available memory system which recalls the individual settings and preferences for up to two different drivers. You can set and save settings for the power driver’s seat position, power adjustable pedals, power tilt and telescoping steering column, power mirrors and radio station presets. I have short legs and my husband has long legs – and having my radio presets just for me? Awesome.

You can check out the other technology options here.

I could go on forever about all the things I loved, and our test driving “adventure” went off smoothly because the boys were totally involved and excited to weigh in with their opinions.

To finish it all off, the Durango has Best-in-Class driving range and towing in case I can finally convince the family to let me buy a camper 😉

  1. I would love to check out the new Durango. We have the same "minivan aversion," but we use our 3rd row to haul around other kids or family. Those bucket seats look awesome so your back passengers aren't climbing over seats.

  2. I love the Durangos, or at least I did the last time I rode in one, which was over 15 years ago.I know, random, that as a 13-year-old, I decided that was the family car I'd want some day. I'd love to see where they've come since then. 🙂

  3. I would love to try the Durango because it really would suit our family so well.

I would love to drive the new Caravan! I have an older model and it is time for an upgrade! I love your review! This would be a very big blessing to us!

  5. Take for a spin? A Challenger. Is that practical for my family? Not really. 🙂

  6. A Dodge Journey. I need a crossover vehicle, I think. Living in Iowa with our terrible winters I have decided to get rid of my beloved GrandAm next year and get something I can actually drive in the winter. After having GrandAms forever, I think I am ready for the change….I think I can….I think I can.

  7. I'd go with a Durango, I like the body style… Thanks for the opportunity!

  8. I would test out the dodge caravan!! I am a huge minivan person!!! Don't have one but want one desperately!

  9. We have a Toyota Tacoma…it's a great vehicle, but sometimes a bit tight with a family of 4. I'd love to test drive the Durango with my kids and see the bonus features you mentioned.

  10. I would like to take the Durango for a spin, it looks like a great car for my family.

  11. I own a Caravan (my 2nd one) so I'd love to test the new one, but the Durango looks really nice too!

  12. My boys are getting older and the Impala just isn't cutting it space wise anymore. I would test out the Durango!

  16. I would most like to test drive the Dodge Dart because it is a compact car perfect for my family that gets up to 41mpg on the highway! It is also very stylish looking.
