Surviving Sick Days - Part 1
I am so excited to announce a fun 3 part series with Children's Mucinex! I am going to share some fun crafts, activities, and ideas to do with your little ones on a sick day. We usually try to post very active and involved projects but sick days are a bit different because the kids need to rest which poses some difficulty! This series will hopefully give you lots of inspiration to keep your kiddos smiling and entertained even when they are sick.
Not only that, we'll also have a giveaway for each part of the series as well! Inspiration AND a chance at a gift card for my readers is icing on the cake!
We try VERY hard to stay our healthiest around here especially during cold and flu season! Hand washing, hand sanitizer for school (the petri dish of germs), green smoothies (smoothies with lots of fresh fruit and veggies), eating un-processed healthy food, staying active, and trying to get plenty of rest during those busy times of the year!

Unfortunately even with the best of intentions they still get sick from time to time. In fact I had one home last week and one home sick as I write this! How's that for timely.

As a parent the only thing you want when your children are sick is for them to feel better and show signs that they are back to their normal, busy selves. I don't use medicine often but my kids have a history of intense ear infections in one boy and pneumonia in the other. So if they do seem to be going down the road of severe congestion or the flu I do find a medication that works best for all of us. I actually had this bottle of Children's Mucinex before we started this partnership. It's a brand I personally use for my kids. It's what works for us to relieve some of the symptoms of the cold or flu. Plus the mucus guy on the label always gets a smile. Especially when we make him talk to get them to take the medicine (you are SO not getting a video of that)
The temprorary relief from the symptoms they get from taking Children's Mucinex allows them some time to put a smile back on their face and do some of our sick day activities.

Me being silly is usually the best way to get a smile.
A silly movie and a cup of hot chocolate.
Homemade play dough with essential oils. They have a blast sitting up to the table playing and its super cheap so I don't feel guilty throwing it all away when they are done with it.
Some hot tea and a movie (and some chocolate doesn't hurt!)
My boys and I play LOTS of games when they are sick. If they're up for it, usually we go through Cnadyland, Chutes & Ladders, & Busytown. If they're too wiped out, computer/video games definitely help keep them distracted from feeling so badly.
We always snuggle on the couch with a movie--most recently it has to be Cars.
Reading books in super silly voices or just snuggling on the couch watching one of his favorite movies.
Usually snuggles and playing Go Fish! help bring a smile but really my boys would just like to cuddle and watch a movie when they are sick.
My daughter likes watching Nick Jr. when she’s under the weather.
My kids always want to snuggle in Mommy and Daddy's bed and watch a movie.
I have a sock puppet that speaks in Japanese to my kids. It always makes them smile, even when in tears of pain.
When my kids are sick I usually give them a new coloring book, so we can color together or play Tic Tac Toe.
These activities always make them smile.
Although we generally try to limit the amount of tv my kids watch, when they are really sick we indulge. My six year old sons favorite movie is Land Before Time and anymore the only time I let him watch it is when he's sick. I've actually heard my kids say, "Yay! I'm sick! I get to watch tv today!" Not an activity really, but I don't seem to have much energy for anything creative when they are down.
My little one loves reading his favorite books and it always brings a smile to his face ~ even when he's not feeling so good.
Ice cream!
A favorite movie always helps on a sick day!
He loves to do puzzles and play with blocks, of course always a good time to curl up and watch a movie. Winnie the Pooh is usually on tab for the day.
Missing school makes them smile! We enjoy games and TV time. We also like Mucinex!
My kids love cuddling with their favorite blankies and extra cushions when their sick. Of course, all of the extra attention doesn't hurt!
My youngest is happier when I cuddle up with her and watch a movie or two.
